Recently I have joined in a discussion on the Internet about whether more MET opportunities should be provided each year. Of course, different people have different opinions on the issue. Some are in favor of this idea, while others express their worries about it. Those who are for this idea think that more test opportunities each year meets the need for MET reform. It allows students to have more chances and also helps reduce the stress of both parents and students. Those who feel worried believe that more test opportunities each year will add too much of a burden to both students and teachers. Besides, it will be a waste of money, labor and other social resources. As far as I am concerned, the more chances the better. More test opportunities each year will improve the fairness of MET.

In the picture, a man is rowing a boat with great difficulty. However, the water in the river is too shallow for the boat to move on. Obviously, it is difficult to move the boat no matter how hard he tries. The picture tries to convey the message that it is important to build a solid foundation if we want to succeed. We can learn this lesson in real life. Take study for example. If we don’t have basic knowledge and essential ability, we may fail to achieve our goals even if we work hard. Just like the man in the picture, he can’t move forward as expected because water is not deep enough for the boat. Therefore, a good foundation is the key to success.
高三英语期末听力录音稿 Text 1 W: I heard you are leaving. M: Yeah, I am moving to Cambridge. I’ve got a job offer there. Besides, my parents live there. W: We’ll miss you. Text 2 W: Mr. Watson, I wonder whether it’s possible for me to take a vacation early next month. M: I’m afraid not. You know, we are short of labor now. Text 3 M: Sorry, I’m late. You know…the traffic is so heavy on the road. W: Well, do you think I will believe the same old excuse? No way! M: Oh, dear, forgive me, please. I will be punctual next time. Text 4
M: Good afternoon. How can I help you? W: Good afternoon. I have an appointment at 4 o’clock. M: Your name, please? W: Helen Johnson. M: Oh, yes. Take a seat please. Dr Gleeson will see you soon. Text 5 W: What are you going to have? M: I don’t know. I’ve never eaten here before. What do you suggest? W: Well, I always like the salad. It’s usually very fresh but if you don’t like vegetables, then what about going for smoked fish? It is very good, too. Text 6 M: Hello! This is front desk. W: This is Alice Givens, in 2
  06. I have just checked in. M: Yes, Ms. Givens? W: I am sorry to say that I am not completely satisfied with my room. M: And I am sorry to hear that, Ms. Givens. What is the problem with the room? W: It just isn’t what I specified when I made my reservation. M: And how is that? W: I asked for a room as far as possible from the elevator, facing away from the street. But this room is right beside the elevator, facing the busy street. Can you please move me to a different room? M: Let me see what I can do. Text 7
M: My father is a born shopper. He loves to look at things and to touch them. He likes to compare prices between the same items in different stores. He would never think of buying anything without looking around in several different stores. On the other hand, my mother is not a shopper. She regards shopping as boring and unpleasant. If she likes something and she can afford it, she buys it instantly. She never looks around for a good sale or a better deal. Bargains don't interest her. Needless to say, my father and mother never go shopping together. The experience would be too painful for both of them. When it comes to shopping, they go their separate ways in order to avoid an argument. Text 8 M: Miss Jones, could you tell me more about your first job ? W: Yes, certainly. I was a marketing consultant responsible for marketing 10 UK hotels. M: Which markets were you responsible for? W: For Europe and Japan. M: I know that you speak Japanese. Have you ever been to Japan? W: Yes, I have, I spent months in Japan in 20
  06. I met all the key people in the tourist industry. As I speak Japanese, I had a very big advantage. M: Yes, of course. Have you had any contact with Japan in your present job? W: Yes, I’ve had a lot. In fact, the market for all types of luxury holidays for the Japanese has increased a lot recently. M: Really, I’m interested to hear more about that, but first tell me, have you ever traveled on the luxury train, the Orient Express, for example? W: No, I haven’t. But I’ve traveled on the Glacial Express through Switzerland and I traveled across China by train about 8 years ago. I love train travel. That’s why I’m very interested in this job. Text 9 W: Hi, Adam. Is that your dog?
M: Actually, he’s my son Dillon’s dog. I am just taking him for a walk today. W: He’s a golden retriever, right? M: Yes. We’ve had him about 3 weeks and already we can’t live without him. W: Really? Why? M: He’s such a great companion, so friendly and playful. W: He seems kind of high-spirited. M: Yes, but he is calming down. And he’s teaching Dillon responsibility because he has to feed and exercise him every day. W: So why are you walking him today? M: Dillon asked me to because he has baseball practice after school today. W: I hope he’s a healthy dog. M: He is. We’ve taken him to the animal hospital for shots and a checkup. W: And that cost over $100, I’ll bet. M: It did. But it was worth it. W: And what if he gets so sick that you have to consider letting him die without pain? M: Dillon would be heartbroken?as well as my wife and I. W: Exactly. And that’s why I will never own a pet. I couldn’t go through that. Text 10 W: Good evening, this is Jonny Taylor on the Medicine Time and we’re lucky to have Dr Berg with us to talk about aspirin, “the wonder drug”. Dr Berg, welcome… M: It’s my pleasure…
W: Dr Berg, who invented aspirin? M: It was Felix Hoffmann, a German scientist. On March 6, 2011 the maker of aspirin, the German company Bayer, celebrated Hoffmann’s discovery. The activity marked the 112th anniversary of aspirin’s launch. W: How important is the invention? M: er… A Spanish philosopher made comments on the drug’s influence in the 1930s, saying that modern man lived in “the age of the aspirin”. Aspirin has been said to cure or prevent everything from headaches to heart attacks. It was sold initially in powder form and later became the first drug to be sold as a tablet. Actually, as it is simple to make and even easier to administer, aspirin, like Coca-Cola and Levis, is one of the brands to have gone beyond cultures, borders and generations to enjoy almost universal recognition.
