Unit Three
Teaching Objectives:
By the end of this unit, the students will be expected to be able to
  1. talk about ways to live a happy life;
  2. use skillfully the 15 new words and 8 new phrases and expressions learned in TEXT A in brief conversations and writings, and be familiar with the words and phrases learned in the text;
  3. get to know something about “the revelation of life” and learn as many language points as possible in TEXT B;
  4. consolidate the basic grammar on the simple present tense;
  5. know the use of gerund
  6. read material on a similar topic and with a similar degree of difficulty.

  1. Introductory Remarks How will you know you can succeed at something if you don't give it a try? How will you know you can drag yourself out of the depths of your despair if you don't try?   2) fix (sth.) precisely 确定(某事物) eg: determine a date for a meeting. 确定会议日期。
  7. Spiritual guidance is not restricted to one area, or one particular day, or one particular time of the day. restricted v. restrict sb./sth. (to sth.) put a limit on sb./sth. eg: Speed is restricted to 30 mph in towns.. 市内车速每小时不得超过 30 英里。

It is present in the books that you "happen" to come across, articles you are attracted to reading, things you hear that when looked at from that perspective apply to your situation. come across sb./sth. : meet or find sb./sth. by chance 偶然遇见 eg: We must hang in whenever we come across difficulties.. 我们遇到困难时一定要坚持不懈。
  9. Just as negative emotions have a negative effect on the body, so do positive emotions have a positive effect. negative adj.

  2) lacking positive or affirmative qualities eg: He has a very negative attitude to his work, i.e. is not interested in trying to do it well or properly. 他的工作态度很消极。 positive adj.

  2) tending to emphasize what is good or laudable; constructive eg: He takes a very positive attitude when correcting pupils' mistakes. 他以一种积极的态度来改正小学生的错误。
