I apply for the Qualification Certificate for Senior English Teaching. It is my great honor to be here to present my topic.Today I will talk about healthy eating. It is the reading part of unit 13 from Senior English for China Student’s Book 1B. Now I will introduce this period in detail. The analysis of teaching material: This is a reading passage. It plays a very important part in this unit. By study this passage, students can improve their reading ability and comprehensive ability. Teaching aims:
  1. Knowledge aim: Understand the main idea of the text.
  2. Ability aim: Retell the text in their own words.
  3. Emotional aim: let the students know how to live a healthy life.. Teaching important points and difficult points: How to understand and analyses the text better. Use your own words to retell the text. About the students:
  1. The Ss have known something about healthy eating from internet and doctors.
  2. They don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others.
  3. Some Ss are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. Teaching methods: Double activities teaching method Question-and-answer teaching method Task-based method Cooperation-study method Studying Ways:
  1. Learn how to be successful reader.
  2. Learn how to gain information.
  3. Learn how to retell a passage. Teaching aids: a computer, a projector and a tape recorder Teaching procedures: Step 1 Warming up. I will get the Ss to talk about something about delicious food to activate their interests. Step
  2. Pre-reading Discuss some questions: (
  1) How many meals do you have every day? Which is most important? (
  2) How much water do you drink every day? Method: Free discussion Purpose: Improve the students’ speaking ability and expression ability Step
  3. Fast reading in this step, I will get them to read the article quickly to catch the general idea and
get a brief impression of this topic. By doing this, I will train the students for fast reading skills. Step
  4. Careful reading The Ss are required to focus on the whole text carefully paragraph by paragraph and answer the questions. The purpose is to train the students for the skills of scanning and to lead the students to find out the important facts and detailed information. And furthermore to help the students understand the text and smooth away the difficulties. Step
  5. Post-reading For the Ss to understand the passage better, I will get the students to answer three questions to further develop the students’ reading abilities and deal with the difficulties. Step 6 Discussion: In this step, the Ss will be asked to have a discussion in groups. By doing so, I guide the Ss to activate their language that they have learned. Then invite some group members to report their work to the whole class to make them overcome their shyness and stimulate them to speak in public. I think the ability to use English is the most important. We shouldn’t end it just by attending the English entrance examination to get high marks. I gave the Ss some presents because of their excellent performances, thus enhancing their awareness of using English. Step 7 Summaries. In this step, I will ask the student to retell the text in their own words so that they can revise what they will have learnt in the class. Step 8 Homework The last step is to help Ss consolidate what they will have learnt in this lesson. Para2: Stores offer all kinds of food and we have to make many choices. Para3: The choices we make are not just about nutrition.
