一、由介词引导的定语从句
  1. 当关系代词充当介词的宾语时,定语从句由“介词 + 关系代词”引导。如果关系代 词指的是人,则由“介词 + whom”引导;如果关系代词指的是物,则由“介词 + which” 引导。例如: The school in which he once studied is very famous. 他以前读书的那所学校很有名。 We’ll go to visit the famous professor about whom we have often talked. 我们将去拜访那位非常有名的我们经常谈论的教授。
  2. 在口语中,一般都把介词放在从句后面,这时可以用 that 来引导这个定语从句。 如果关系代词指的是人,还可用 whom 引导定语从句,但常省略 that 或 whom。 例如: The little girl (that / whom) I look after is my uncle’s daughter. 我照看的小女孩是我叔

I didn’t like the way (that / in which) he talked to me. 我不喜欢他跟我说话的方式。 We admired him for the way (that / in which) he faces difficulties. 我们赞美他面对困 难的方式。 二、注意介词的选取 ....... “介词” + “关系代词”引导的定语从句中,介词的选取应根据如下几点:
  1.根据介词和定语从句中谓语动词的习惯搭配。如: ...................

  2) The two things about which Marx was not sure were the grammar and some idioms. ... . . .. .. .
  2.根据定语从句意思的需要,此时不但要注意其前的搭配也要注意其后的搭配: ..................................
  1) He had a bad cold, because of which he didn’t attend the meeting. 他患了重感冒,因此未能参加会议。
  2) The speed at which the car runs depends on the road condition. 这辆车的速度要根据路面状况而定。

三、注意关系代词的选取 ......... 在“介词 + 关系代词”引导的定语从句中, 如果关系代词指代事物就用 which; 如果指 代人则用 whom; 若表示“……的”这种从属关系则用 whose。 如:
  1. This is the classroom in which we studied last year.这就是我们去年学习的教室。
  2. There are sixty students in our class, twenty of whom are girls. 我们班有六十个学生,其中二十个是女生。
  3. He lives in a house, whose door opens to the north. 他住的房子门是朝北开的。 四、注意不能拆开的动词短语 ........... 并不是所有的动词短语都能拆开,要注意有些动词短语不能拆开使用。这样的动词短 语常用的有: look after, look for, turn in, take care of,depend on, 等, 如:

  2.Is this the book (which/that)she was looking for ? 这是她正在找的那本书吗?
