Background of English teaching in primary school: It is not a long history that English is as a subject in primary school in our country and the main instructional aims of teaching English in primary school is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of their listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language. Our boys and girls are exposed to English for the first time, so it is very important to develop their keen interest in English. I.Contents Today I’m going to talk about Module 6 unit
  1,New Standard English,Book
  3.“Can you run fast?”is talking about somebody’s abilities. The contents in the lesson are mainly deal with the Patterns “can you run fast/jump high/jump far/ride fast? ”and use them in situation. II. Teaching aims
  1. Aims on knowledge (
  1). To enable the Ss to understand and speak:“Can you run fast/jump high/jump far/ride fast?” Make sure that Ss can use in real situations. (
  2) To help Ss to finish the survey.
  2. Aims on the abilities (
  1) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking. (
  2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups. (
  3) To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation.
  3. Aims on the emotion (
  1)To foster Ss’ consciousness of good cooperation and proper competition. (
  2) To lead Ss to help others. (
  3)Do more exercises to keep them healthy. III. Key-points of this lesson (
  1) To help Ss ask and answer the questions:“ Can you run fast…?”and the answers“Yes, I can/No, I can’t” (
  2) To enable Ss to study in groups and cooperate skillfully. (
  3) To develop Ss’ interest in English. IV. Difficult points (
  1) To help the Ss ask and answer the questions: “can you run fast… ?”and make sure they can answer the questions correctly. (
  2) To finish the survey by themselves. V. Teaching methods As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in primary school is to cultivate pupils’ basic abilities of listening and speaking and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I will let the Ss learn in real situations, finish a task by making a survey to help the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue. I will arrange four kinds of activities: singing, driving a train, finishing a survey and having a competition. And in this lesson a recorder, pictures and word cards
Will be needed. VI. Teaching procedures and purposes of my designing. I’ll finish this lesson in these steps. Step 1 Warm up and review
  1. Free talk between T and Ss about some actions.
  2. Do some TPR, for example: play basketball, run, jump, make a cake, ride a bike
  3. Chant: Make a cake Purpose: It is important to form a better English learning surrounding for the Ss by singing and doing some total physical response and at the same time it provides situations to review learned knowledge for the next step. Step 2 Presentation Now I’ll mainly talk about this step.
  1. Present the pattern (
  1).Teacher asks with doing some actions: Look, boys and girls, What am I doing ? Ss: You’re running T: Yes, I’m running, I can run, Can you run? (Tell the Ss, if you can, please nod your head and say Yes, I can.; if you can’t, please shake your head and say No, I can’t) Ss: Yes, I can T: Ok, follow me. (do the action and say I can run) Ss: I can run. (
  2)T : I can run , and now I can run fast, Jack, Can you run fast?( do the action run fast ) Jack: Yes, I can. T: Let’s have a match. One, two, go. T: Yes, you can run fast, You’re the winner. You can run fast ,so I’ll call your group“run fast”. Purpose: make a real situation, the Ss will interest. (
  3)T: I can run fast, and I can jump, now I can jump high, Can you jump high? (ask the student of the second group) Ss: Yes, I can. T: Show me ,please. Oh, yes , you can. So I’ll call you“jump high”. (
  4)T: I can jump high and I also can jump far. Look! I can jump very far. Can you jump far?(ask the Ss of the third group) Ss: Yes, I can. T: So I’ll call you“jump far”. (
  5)T:Now, look. What am I doing?(ask the Ss of group four) Ss: You’re riding a bike. T: Yes, you’re wonderful. I can ride a bike, and I can ride fast. Can you? Ss: Yes, I can. T: Ok, I’ll name you “ride a bike”. (
  6) Then teach the new words : run fast/jump high/ jump far/ride fast. I’ll draw a bomb next to a word, if the Ss read out this word , the others will say “ one,two, three , bomb” Purpose:in this way,the Ss will be interested in learning new words. They won’t think that teaching is dull.
Step3 Practise
  1.Game: Driving a train. In groups, The Ss ask and answer one by one, I’ll see which group is the first. And give the first group one star. Purpose: In this way, every Ss will open their mouth and practice the sentences. They’ll get more practice.
  2.Make a competition: I will tell a story, ask the Ss to say more sentences. The story is: A cat is standing on a wall under a tree. He is looking up. An owl is sitting in the tree. She is looking down from here. They look and look at each other. Then they began to talk. Owl: Hello. Who are you? Cat: I’m a cat. Who are you? Owl: Hi. I’m a owl. I can fly. Can you fly? Cat: No. I can’t. I can catch a mouse. Can you catch a mouse? Owl: Yes. I can. I can also sing a song. What can you do? Cat: I can run. What can you do? Owl: I can…(ask two groups to be cat, the others to be owl) Purpose: The Ss are interest in stories. competition can arouse the Ss’ interest in English learning.
  3.Ask the Ss to open the book on page22, then play the cassette, ask the Ss to listen for three times The first time: listen and circle new words The second time: listen and find the answers: (
  1) Can Amy run fast? (
  2) Can Sam jump high? (
  3) Can Lingling jump far? (
  4) Can Sam ride fast? The third time: listen and repeat. Purpose: Listening tape can make Ss pay attention to their pronunciation and intonation. Step
