Vocabulary Teaching
Some principles and considerations
When teaching the unfamiliar words, teachers need to consider the following:

  1.Learners need to do more than just see the form. They need to hear the pronunciation and practice saying the word aloud as well.
  2.study five to seven words at a time, dividing larger numbers of words into smaller groups. As learners review these five to seven cards, they will more quickly get repeated exposure to the words than when larger groups.
When teaching the unfamiliar words, teachers need to consider the following:

  3. It is more effective to study words regularly over several short sessions than to study them for one or two longer sessions.
  4. Associate the newly learned words with other L2 words that the learner already knows.
Review Regularly
Regular review helps maintain the largest amount of recall. Need at least 5-7 times to remember a word and include it in active vocabulary In classroom, give Ss opportunities to pick up newly learned vocabulary on a variety of tasks and encourage them to revise the newly learned words on a regular basis.
Organize vocabulary effectively
There is evidence that if information is organized and stored in special ways, it is more likely to be retained and easier to retrieve.
With a conscious attempts at vocabulary organization it is likely that a student’s vocabulary store will increase significantly. Methods: To organize words according to different categories or topics.
Vocabulary lists & Word Cards
Vocabulary lists can be an effective way to quickly learn word-pair translations (Nation, 19
  90). However, it is more effective to use vocabulary cards because learners can control the word order in which they study the words (Atkinson, 19
  72). Also additional information can easily be added to the cards. Such as sentence examples, pictures.
