Duration: 5 minutes (A)Background Information
Students have learned new words and new phrases. This lesson focuses on grammar ??when and past progressive tense. Students need to use the new words and understand the grammar rule of the adverbial clause with when questions. Students have already learned the past tense and where questions in the second students’ book and the progressive tense in the third students’ book.

The students will be able to (

b. Language Skills: Through speaking, students are able to understand the grammar of when
questions and know how to use it.
c. Learning Strategies: Through individual studying and cooperative working, they are able
to participate, experience in the activities, making the questionnaire.
d. Affection: Through pair work, the students can express themselves. (C) Emphasis and Difficulties Emphasis: students are able to understand the grammar of when questions and know how to
use it.
Difficulties: Students may find it can be easy to make mistake about the tense between past
progressive tense and progressive tense.

(E) Teaching Procedures Step 1: lead-in (1minutes)
T: Class begins, boys and girls. Ok, firstly, let’s see a picture. Do you know where it is?
Ss: Japan T: very good. do you know what happened here on march 11th? Ss: earthquake T: yes, earthquake. A very heavy earthquake. Ok let’s see what happened that time. T: we will find a machine. Who is he? Ss: duolaeimeng T: yes, and this is his time machine. Ok, imagine we are in the time machine. Let’s see what happened? T: this is Mei Zi. Ss: in the shop. T: yes, she was in the shop. What was she doing? Ss: buying T: buying food. The whole sentence. Ss: she was buying food. Where was she?
Step 2 (questionnaire) (2minutes)
T: I want to see where you were and what you were doing? Work in pairs and asked your partner. (Make a dialogue) T: ok, David, where were you on March 11th? Ss: I was in the school. T: what were you doing? Ss: I was having class. T: Angel, what were you doing that day? Ss: I was surfing on the internet.
Step 3(2minutes)
T: en, you did a very good job. Now attention. Mei Zi was in the shop. The earthquake happened. How to combine these two sentences together? Any one knows? T: we will use the word “when”. So the whole sentence is Mei Zi was in the shop when the earthquake happened. Read it together. Ss: Mei Zi was in the shop when the earthquake happened.

T: then how to put all information together, including where what and when? Ss: Mary was getting out of the shower in the bathroom when the earthquake happened.
