1 Introduction

1.1 The Seven Deadly Sins Gluttony: Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy. It is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires. Greed: Greed (Latin, avaritia) is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness. It includes disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church. Sloth: Sloth (Latin, Socordia) is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work. By the 17th century, the exact deadly sin referred to was believed to be the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. In practice, it came to be closer to sloth than acedia. The modern view goes further, regarding laziness and indifference as the sin at the heart of the matter. Since this contrast with a more willful failure to, sloth is often seen as being considerably less serious than the other sins, more a sin of omission than of commission. Lust: Lust or lechery, is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Aristotle's criterion was excessive love of others, which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. Giving in to lusts can lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but not limited to) sexual addiction, fornication, adultery, bestiality, rape, perversion, and incest. Pride: In almost every list Pride (Latin, superbia), or hubris, is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or
1
attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others and excessive love of self, especially holding self out of proper position toward God.
Envy: Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation. Like greed,
Envy (Latin, invidia) may be characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however, for two main reasons. First, greed is largely associated with material goods, where as envy may apply more generally. Second, those who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it. Wrath: Wrath (Latin, ira), also known as anger or "rage", may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. These feelings can manifest as vehement denial of the truth, both to others and in the form of self-denial, impatience with the procedure of law, and the desire to seek revenge outside of the workings of the justice system and generally wishing to do evil or harm to others. The transgressions born of vengeance are among the most serious, including murder, assault, and in extreme cases, genocide.
1.2 Seven Deadly Sins in Seven It can be concluded by the conversation between David Mills (detective in the film) and John Doe (villain in the film). David Mills: Wait, I thought all you did was kill innocent people. John Doe: "Innocent? Is that supposed to be funny? An obese man... a disgusting man who could barely stand up; a man who if you saw him on the street, you'd point him out to your friends so that they could join you in mocking him; a man, who if you saw him while you were eating, you wouldn't be able to finish your meal. After him, I picked the lawyer and I know you both must have been secretly thanking me for that one. This is a man who dedicated his life to making money by lying with every breath that he could muster to keeping murderers and rapists on the streets!" David Mills: Murderers? John Doe: A woman... David Mills: Murderers, John, like yourself?
2
John Doe: "A woman... so ugly on the inside she couldn't bear to go on living if she couldn't be beautiful on the outside. A drug dealer, a drug dealing pederast, actually! And let's not forget the disease-spreading whore! Only in a world this shitty could you even try to say these were innocent people and keep a straight face. But that's the point. We see a deadly sin on every street corner, in every home, and we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it's common, it's trivial. We tolerate it morning, noon, and night. Well, not anymore. I'm setting the example. What I've done is going to be puzzled over and studied and followed... forever." Gluttony is A fatty-puff man; Greed is a lawyer; Sloth is a drug dealer; Lust is a whore; Pride is a manikin; Envy is the killer John Doe itself, and Wrath is the detective Mills. The way how the victims died are so morbid that I dare not to bring them out into the paper. The director, David Fincher did not use too much bloodiness and chase scene to make horror and compact effect, but the suspense of plot and the mystique of religion. Audients will be towed to feel tension, to feel heavy, then to think about the society, the humanity and the darkness. This film is not about killing, is not about how one can do a kind of devil behavior, but about the motivation of killing, the origin of motivation and thinks behind it.
2 Analyses

2.1 Behind the film Seven is forcing people to face the darkest side of human nature, Even though it is a fiction. The smart director David Fincher is trying to tell us, in reality, Devil is infiltrate and hiding its claws and fangs in people's thoughts and emotions, just like the old detective Somerset said, " If we caught John Doe and he were the devil himself, if it turned out he were actually Satan, then, that might live up to our expectations. No human being could do these things, right? But, this is not the devil. It's just a man…" In this world where materialistic desire is circumfusing and exuberating, too many people have lost themselves. Most melancholy, in the end, evens the police Mills still lost mind to shot the villain. The evil's scheme had a perfect compliment. Does not it make clear to all that the sins have overwhelmed our human nature, our society? And ourselves can not control, can not resist that? The killer had
3
used the most radical way to unveil the most anabrotic to the light, to make you observe this part of yourself and this part of the society. A distorted society is the mother of crime. There are ceaselessly many films that have reflected serial killer events in America. But this time, we are not so much shocked with the cruelty of the killer as the frequency of victims' behavior in real life. The film has established a psychological association with the social reality of America.
2.2 The reality in America After watching this film, I involuntarily kept thinking what reality is of American society. Is present so murkily like the movie? So I have made some researches. Obesity: it in the United States has been increasingly cited as a major health issue in recent decades. While many industrialized countries have experienced similar increases, obesity rates in the United States are among the highest in the world with 64% of adults being overweight or obese, and 26% are obese. Estimates of the number of obese American adults have been steadily expanding, from
  19.4% in 1997,
  24.5% in 2004 to
  26.6% in 20
  07. Should current trends continue, 75% of adults in the United States are projected to be overweight and 41% obese by 2015 year?
4
The direct medical cost of obesity and indirect economic loss to obesity has been estimated to be as high as $
  51.64 billion and $
99.2 billion in 1995, respectively; this rose to $61 billion and $117 billion in 20
  00. Researchers for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International estimate that in 2003, obesity-attributable medical expenditures reached $75 billion. Drugs: The United States is the biggest drug sales market of the world. The sales volume of marijuana, cocaine and heroin three drugs has reached up to 160 million tons a year. Since the 1990s, the drug has annual sales of more than $100 billion; in the United States people
