一:Craze for Civil Service Examinations
Every year hundreds of thousands of people in China take civil service exams conducted at various levels in the hope of becoming government employees. Among them, college graduates are a fast-growing force that can’t be ignored. The craze for being a civil servant is not limited to liberal arts majors, as it’s also gaining popularity among science and engineering students. In the final analysis, this growing trend among the youngsters is mainly attributable to two factors ? ambitions and comforts. On one hand, many ambitious college graduates view these exams as a springboard to a higher social status, greater power and prestige, on which many of their other wishes rest. On the other, as being a civil servant generally means a as well stable income, enviable healthcare and pension programmes, as other comforts of life, it’s quite an appealing career option to many people, especially in this age of sluggish 萧条的 world economy. Personally, the desire to be a government official is beyond reproach(无可厚非), as the nation and the people do need an injection of new blood into the civil service sectors. The fresh-faced college graduates, armed with lofty 崇高的 ideals, new vision, and strong drive, are undoubtedly among the best candidates. 200033 Wang Peng No.3120, Zhongshan Road Xu Hui District Shanghai, 200076 September, 28th, 2003 Department of Human Resources Lansheng Building No.8560, Huaihai Zhong Road Shanghai, 200033 Dear Sir or Madam, I learned from Beijing Youth Daily Oct. 2 that your company is offering a position for a secretary, and it's a great pleasure for me to write to explore the possibility of seeking the job.
I graduated two years ago from Beijing University of Technology, and obtained a bachelor's degree in the field of business manage?ment. During my stay in the university my major courses included macro-economics, business communication skills, marketing and com?puter applications. I was especially fond of the communication skills which enabled me to deal with people and things around well. Upon graduation I engaged with HP China Branch as an assis?tant to the head of Marketing Department. My responsibilities consist?ed of carrying out market surveys, writing reports and organizing meet?ings within the department. This two-year experience has helped me a lot in many ways. In particular, I become increasingly aware of the importance of co-ordination and co-operation among co-workers. I also believe the experience will qualify me for the current vacancy in your company. I passed both CET-4 and CET-6 with high marks. My spoken English is also fluent enough to organize meetings in English, which was actually my routine work in HP. Most of my market reports were presented in English, as my former boss is a native English speaker I enclose herein my resume and some relevant documents as re?quired. And if you need any further information on me, I also refer you to Mr. Johnson, my ex-colleague, who is available at 021-666688
  88. I appreciate your sincere consideration of me, and am looking forward to an early interview with you. Sincerely yours, Wang Peng 求职信 sample 2 Directions: The summer vacation is drawing near. You, Liming by name, want to find a part-time job. Write an application letter of about 120-150 words within 30 minutes. Dear Sirs, I'm Li Ming, a sophomore majoring in English at XX University. I read in yesterday's newspaper that you are looking for a part-time secretary and I think I'll prove to be a real find for you. During the past two years at university, I’ve taken over 18 compulsory and optional course, and have according improved my ability of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation considerably. Besides, I have learned a lot about foreign relations and trade. At leisure, I always try to grasp every precious opportunity to practice English with native speakers. As a matter of fact, I've already tried some translation and interpretation jobs. I once worked as a temporary interpreter at the East China Export Commodities Fair. In addition, during the past two years, I have been working as a part-time tour guide. My jobs offered me good opportunities to improve my English and work competence and I enjoy them very much. Two weeks from now, I will be on holiday again. If you can grant me the honor to work for your company as a secretary for two months, I'd feel obliged. Thank you for reading my application letter. I'm looking forward to your reply. 三: Volunteer teaching in the west
Every year, college students are inspired to help students with their study in underdeveloped areas in china. They have been trying their best to impart knowledge and offering help to those students who are so eager to learn. This volunteer practice has been beneficial in two aspects. On one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely welcome and respected by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are learning how to deal with difficulties and face challenges as well. What’s more, by any means, this volunteer experience will be always a valuable asset in his or her life. In my opinion, every Chinese citizen is responsible for the development of education in china. And we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas. 四:College Graduates Work as Village Officials”. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below in Chinese: Remember to write it neatly.
In recent years being a village official has become the first choice of many college students when they graduate and are trying to find a job. According to a report carried by The Chinese Education Daily the number of students who apply for the post increases at the annual rate of 20 percent in recent five years, which well justifies the popularity of becoming a village official among college students. Several factors may account for this popularity. First, it is the fierce competition of job market that forces the college graduates to consider other alternatives other than staying in the big cities as they used to. Secondly, to encourage well-educated young talents to work in the rural areas, the government authorities have made some policies offering major incentives to college graduates who are willing to work for rural governments at grassroots level, especially for village committees. For example, those who work for a rural committee for at least three years after graduation can get a 10-point credit in their exams to enter graduate schools. The preferential treatment is appealing to many students. Last but not least, many students consider working as a village official is a rewarding opportunity. It will acquaint themselves with the very society of our country as well as improve their adaptability to different circumstances, both of which are believed to be beneficial to their future career. In my opinion, college students working as a village official is worth promoting. It is possible that some graduates may use the job as “spring boards”: only applying for it in order to receive the favorable treatment, but the majority of them genuinely hope to serve the rural areas and better the life of the villagers. With the participation of so many college graduates, we have reasons to believe that it will not take too long to realize the blueprint of Constructing New Village. Directions: For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a letter. Suppose you are Peter. Write a letter to your friend Li Dawei. You should write at least 120 words according to the
situation given below in Chinese: 假设你的好朋友李大伟是大学四年级学生, 正在考虑是考研究生继续深造、 还是大学毕 业后就踏上工作岗位。请你给她写封信表明你的态度。 Sample June, 2003 Dear Dawei, I understand that you are in a dilemma. Although so many gradu?ates are eager to set feet on their work-life road, there are still some who prefer to start their new life after gaining another degree to make better preparation for entering society. In my opinion, the latter are more admirable. You are good at all your courses these years, so if you do like to spend another two or three years on cam?pus, you should stick to it. In today's society, the achievement and status you can get and the devotion you can make are no doubt in proportion to your educational background and degrees, coupled with the efforts you put in them. If you want to stride to your destina?tions more smoothly and easily, why not head for the further study courageously? Whichever you choose, I firmly believe your industry will en?sure your success. After all, it is you who have the final say on the final choice. Best wishes. Yours sincerely Peter 六:Choosing a Career Outline:
Choosing career is a problem that every youth must be faced. First of all, when a person has grown up, he has to decide which field he will go into so that he can earn enough money and support himself. Besides, with so many people rushing into the city from the country, there are fewer and fewer job opportunities available and it is becoming increasingly difficult for one to find a suitable job. There are many factors to be considered when one is choosing a career. One factor is that a young man has to find a job that will bring him a good income for a comfortable life. Interest is another factor. The job should be interesting and motivating. Finally, one should find a job that suits his talent, so that he can make full use of his potential. But what preparations should a young man make in order to choose a good job? One must first of all be serious about this matter because it will have an influence on his whole life. Then, to meet the requirements of demanding jobs, one needs to have certain qualifications. It is therefore essential for him to acquire basic knowledge and skills. 七:Jobs for Graduates
Sample It’s very hard for college graduates to find a job, of course harder to get an ideal job. In fact, many factors contribute to the unfavorable situation. First, more and more students can go to college because of the being fast improved high education of China. As a result, there are more graduates every year. However, job vacancies don’t increase that fast. More people, less food, which is the exact description of the hard condition.
Second, more and more people go on to pursue their master and doctor degree; more and more Chinese oversea students come back to China to hunt better working chances. It is sure that the competition is more and more fierce. Third, because of the fast development of science, technology, economy, society and the interchange of different nations, all units have higher requirement of their employees, for example, stronger ability and higher degree. In addition to the factors above, there are still more which bring hardship for graduates to find jobs. Nevertheless, how to solve the problem is more important. It is a good idea for the graduates to learn more knowledge with a higher degree and to practice and improve their capability of dealing with all kinds of situation, organization, having good terms with others and cooperative spirit. Besides, the government should try to and encourage all units to create more job vacancies for the college graduates. Of course, the graduates should have a proper attitude towards various jobs, but not always pursue those with higher payment. 八:My View on Job-hopping Outline:
People's opinions are always different when they talk about job-hopping. Those who never change their job throughout their life maintain that they have accumulated enough experience to work smoothly and efficiently, so what's the point in changing it and taking another job? They also firmly believe that anyone who
